Batch Brew coffee at Hartfields

Batch Brew coffee is now available at Hartfields in Uckfield. This is like a filter coffee, or a very smooth Americano and best drunk black or with a tiny splash of milk, says business owner James Hartfield.

The benefit is that the coffee is brewed specifically for a particular size of drink, unlike Americano which is Espresso with added water.

James said: “It is a much subtler flavour brewed specifically for that length of drink.”

Guest coffees are now featuring on the menu at Hartfields, and available as Batch Brew. They will be changed every few weeks to add variety. At the moment you can try the Rwandan ‘Liza’ which is described as tasting of orange, caramel and chocolate.

Or you could try sweetcorn fritter and fried Halloumi stack with red pepper relish and poached egg.

Lite bites on the lunch specials menu include hot cross bun, toasted with butter and jam, baked brie flat mushroom with Mediterranean salad, or smoked mackerel with horseradish potato salad, and rocket.

Shimano reels arrive at Hooked on Green

New high quality reels have arrived at Hooked on Green, the fishing tackle shop next door to Green DIY.

One that is particularly admired by Joe Grimes, who works there, is the Speed Master 14,000 XTC.

The 14,000 relates to the line capacity – for use on big water. It also has a slow oscillation, reducing the speed the line travels up and down the spool, meaning the line lays tight and neat resulting in less friction as it is cast.

The Speed Master also has a half turn drag, which gives the fish some pull but enables you to stop it before reeling in.

Also new are RidgeMonkey tackle boxes in different shapes and sizes to help keep your tackle tidy. Smaller boxes, which are sold separately, are designed to fit inside the bigger ones.
